Bangabandhu Karnaphuli Tunnel Paragraph

Karnaphuli Tunnel, also known as the Karnaphuli River Tunnel, is a significant infrastructure project in Bangladesh. It is an underwater tunnel that aims to connect the city of Chittagong with the southern part of the country, crossing the Karnaphuli River.

On 14 October 2017, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and Chinese Communist Party general secretary Xi Jinping inaugurated the Karnaphuli Tunnel.

Karnaphuli tunnel is approximately 3.43 kilometers(2.131 miles) long and consists of two parallel tubes, one for each direction of traffic. The tunnel diameter is 10.80 meters (35.4 ft). The cost of the project is estimated at US$1.1B, of which around half is financed by the Exim Bank of China.

Our Beloved Prim minister Shaikh Hasina officially inaugurated the tunnel On Saturday 28 October 2023, Sheikh Hasina inaugurated the Karnaphuli Tunnel and was made available for traffic from 6 am the next day.

The tunnel provides a direct and uninterrupted link between Chittagong and the Anwara Upazila, improving connectivity and accessibility for residents, businesses, and industries in both areas. It reduces travel time and offers a more efficient route for transportation.

It has been designed to accommodate a wide range of vehicles, including cars, buses, and trucks. The construction of the tunnel has incorporated modern engineering techniques and safety features to ensure the smooth and secure passage of vehicles.

The tunnel project is to alleviate traffic congestion and improve transportation between Chittagong and the Cox's Bazar region. The tunnel is designed to accommodate both road and rail traffic.

It unlocks new opportunities for businesses and residents. The tunnel will enable smoother and more efficient movement of goods, people, and services. Karnaphuli Tunnel not only reduces travel time but also contributes to the overall development of the area, attracting investments and fostering economic growth.
