Arsenic pollution spreads over Cumilla

Of late, arsenic menace frightens the whole population of Cumilla It is severely hit by arsenicosis. The officials of public health department of the govt. detect a large quantity of arsenic in the tube-well water of the district. By drinking contaminated water people are being the victim of many diseases like sores and stomachic troubles. So, urgently it is needed to check the water.

At the same time, people are needed to be taught, how to get rid. of the menace. There should be an arrangement for antidote to purify water. Though, some individuals take initiative in this regard, it is not sufficient. We hope that govt. itself will come forward-to-taking necessary steps in eradicating the acute problem.

Recent changes in forms of entertainment for young people

There is no denying the fact that humans need to fulfil their mental and marginal needs. Of all the basic needs, our entertainments are very much important. From many years there have been significant changes in the types of entertainment. The young people are greatly influenced by the changes of forms of entertainment. In general, band and pop music is becoming more and more popular with the young people. Particularly the young people are not in a position to hear the folk song, palligeeti, which is related to Bengali culture. The young people don't like anything traditional.

They feel interested to enjoy cinema or watching movies: Consequently, they are deprived of taking the entertainment from our cultural realm. To make them happy sound culture and novelty :related programmes should be infused. Effective steps should be adopted to motivate our youth properly.

Problem of waste management

Waste management in our locality is being deteriorated day by day. Specially in the old Dhaka, the old sewerage system has been damaged greatly. Every now and then we experience the waste materials that come out from the manhole overflowing its cover. The roads and streets become filthy due to this. Drainage system has also been collapsed. Not only this but also the garbage container provided by the city corporation is usually loaded with garbage. The waste materials scattered here and there outside tic container produce malodour. It looks very nasty and it has become the breeding point of different germs.

We are habituated to this condition. But we have been attacked with different viral diseases due to this. The sweeper does not come in time to take away the garbage. It has reached in such a position that we are in a slum area. So, to raise public awareness about the problem of waste management and for its proper remedy. I draw the attention of the authorities concerned.

Dear Sir,
I would highly be appreciated if you would kindly publish the following lines in the columns of your esteemed daily newspaper.

Worsening traffic condition of Dhaka City

The opinion of different persons often is to introduce more buses, mini buses and tempos for relief of the commuters. But they avoid certain important issues. The urban roads are grossly inadequate for any addition of the existing transport fleet. The overcrowded streets are gradually becoming narrower because of encroachments by hawkers and floating destitute whose members are increasing day by day.

Unless this problem is solved immediately, any attempt to increase the fleet will be futile. Any solution of Dhaka's transport problem depends on two things : a check on growth and inflow of the destitute and construction of more traffic-bearing roads.

Impact of Dish Antenna

We commonly know satellite connection with the TV networking system of different parts of the world as dish antenna. There are quite a good number of channels such as CNN, BBC, Animal Planet, National Geographic, Discovery, Cartoon Network, GEO, AL-Jajira etc. Through this cable connection we can watch all these varied channels. This is a great opportunity that facilitates us to enjoy and learn multiple information and entertaining incredible advancement of our neighboring countries as well. But sometimes the students and young children neglect their studies and they become addicted to the movies or some odd programmes, which they ought not to watch.

Sometimes some programmes are quite unsuitable for our life and culture. They are against our moral values too. These things are actually polluting our, youths and their mental health. In this respect dish antenna has an adverse effect on the society. Except exciting scenes of sex and violence there are also informative and instructive programmes that can widen our mental horizon and knowledge. So the impact of dish antenna is both harmful and beneficial.

Write a letter to the Editor of a newspaper about the problem of frequent power failure/load-shedding over the country.

Dhaka

Dear Sir,
I would highly appreciate you if you would allow me to express my opinion on the following national issue in the columns of your esteemed daily.
Yours ever
Ahammad Hossain, Ghorashal.

Load-shedding

Load shedding is a vital issue of the country. The necessity and demand of the present electricity consumption is much more than its total production. For this shortage of electric supply, the PDB cuts down its supply in some areas for an indefinite period, which incurs heavy loss. As there is frequent power failure, production in the mills and factories has been disrupted. It also causes economic instability. The teachers, students and people in the offices have to face a very difficult situation when there is power-cut. Besides, where the power· failure is all around, anti-socials and thieves get chance to indulge themselves in different crimes. People of every walk of life have repeatedly complained to the relevant authorities but no response is obtained. Now we draw the attention of the government to look into the matter and ensure the regular and normal supply of electricity everywhere in the country.

Importance of improving communicative skills

Importance of improving communicative skills in English for the students of Bangladesh is a burning question at present. English is an international language. About 350 million people speak English as a first language and another 300 million use it as a second language. It is the official or semi-official language of more than 60 countries and of many international organizations. For example, the International Olympic Committee always holds meeting iri English. English helps the international community and the business world to communicate across the national borders. Today more than 80% of all the information in the world's computers is in English. So organizations frequently need employees who can speak and write a standard form of English.

Nowadays, it is very important to improve the communicative, skills in English for the students of Bangladesh. English usually helps them to get jobs with handsome salaries. So it is necessary to improve their communicative skills in English.

Write an application to the Editor criticizing the adoption of unfair means in the examination hall.

The Daily Star
Dhaka.

Dear Sir, I shall be very glad if you would kindly publish my letter in your esteemed daily so that I can highlight a serious problem before the countrymen.
Sincerely yours

Mirpur, Pallabi, Dhaka.

Adoption of unfair means in the examination hall.

It is a matter of great regret that adoption of unfair means in the examination hall has become a serious social disease nowadays. Students are, at present, keeping them aloof from reading and always remain busy in loitering here and there or other activities like politics, toll collection and anti-social activities. As a result, whenever any examination appears, they remain busy in coping books in the examination hall.

The hall invigilators, magistrates on duty try to stop their anti-social and immoral activity. But the shrewd students somehow manage to escape them. Sometimes they make chaos in the examination hall and create unfair means in examination consisting of copying books, baking out answers in advance and submission of answer script from outside the examination hall. Not only the students but also the dishonest teachers and college officials are also responsible for this odd practice. Education Ministry, law enforcing agency should be active to stop this menace .

Increase of Terrorism in Rayerbagh Area

It is a matter of great regret that terrorism has increased in our area, recently. Terrorism has a long history in our country. A few terrorists of our locality were arrested and sent to the jail some time ago. But very recently they have been bailed out. Being out of custody () they have become desperate.

They are now carrying on their anti-social activities such as snatching and illegal toll-collecting on various pretexts. They snatch away ornaments from the ladies and money from the businessmen in broad daylight. The common people are helpless against them as they are armed. The patrolling police sometimes connive at them.

People especially the ladies dare not come out at night for fear of these terrorist. But the most alarming reality is that the terrorists are very influential and most of them have political affiliations. They get protection from political parties. Sometimes these terrorists engage in fighting among themselves. But this state of affairs cannot be allowed to continue any more. For maintaining peace and order we appeal to the law-enforcing authority to establish a police camp in our locality.

Write a letter to the Editor of a Newspaper expressing your concern about the outbreak of Dengue fever in the city.

Sir,
I shall be highly obliged if you kindly publish the following letter in your esteemed daily.

Outbreak of Dengue

It is a matter of great concern that Dengue has broker out in the city of Dhaka. It is learnt that more than a hundred Dengue patients have been admitted into the hospitals. It is all the more a matter of concern because we are not familiar with this fever and there is no specific treatment of it. It is characterised by headache, joint and muscle pain, bleeding from the gum and red eyes.

Dengue is not a very fatal disease but it is more fatal than malaria. Like malaria it is caused by mosquito-bite. An African female mosquito called Adis Egypty carries the germ of this fever. But it can be prevented by killing its carrier, the Adis mosquito. Another matter of concern is that Adis lives in our houses and breeds in clear stagnant water of the tubs and pots. If the people are a bit conscious, breeding of Adis can be checked and along with it the disease, also.
